Privacy Policy — FaceMemory
Last updated: September 21, 2026
FaceMemory is published by Stephen Bertrand. This policy describes how the iPhone app handles information.
Data the app does not collect
The app does not create accounts, show ads, include analytics, or send information to a server. There is no tracking across other companies’ apps or websites. Photos and face data never leave this iPhone. The developer cannot see, copy, or recover anything from your Photo Library or from the app sandbox.
Face data
FaceMemory is a single-player memory game. It is not Face ID, not a camera app, and not a biometric identification system. It does not create a faceprint, facial geometry map, depth map, or identity model that could recognize a person later.
What face data the app uses
With your Photo Library permission, the app reads photos already stored
on this iPhone. On the device it runs Apple’s Vision
VNDetectFaceRectanglesRequest to find rectangular face
regions. From those rectangles it makes small square JPEG crops
(ordinary 2D pictures of a face area, with a little padding). It also
keeps a local token made from the photo’s on-device library identifier
and the crop rectangle, only so the same crop is not stored twice and
so a later round can avoid repeating the same tiles. Bounding boxes are
used while cropping and are not stored as a separate biometric file.
The app does not collect names, contacts, location, TrueDepth / Face ID mesh data, facial landmarks, or embeddings meant to identify a person. Original Photo Library files stay in Photos; the app does not copy your full camera roll.
Use
Face crops are used only as matching tiles in Classic and Drop play. Open Faces builds a round from faces found in the library. Curated Faces uses only crops you have chosen in Pick Faces. The app does not use face data for advertising, analytics, accounts, social features, or identification of people.
Sharing
Face data is not shared with any third party, affiliate, advertiser, analytics provider, or cloud service. There is no upload API. Nothing is sent to Stephen Bertrand or Bicsnet.
Storage
Everything stays in the app’s sandbox on this iPhone (Application Support), not on a server and not in iCloud:
- JPEG face crops and a small JSON list when you use Pick Faces / Curated Faces.
- Local tokens (not images) so Open Faces can skip tiles you already played, plus game settings and solve-time history.
- Crops for the current round (and a short prefetch of the next round) held in memory and discarded when you leave the game or the app is removed from memory.
Retention and deletion
Face data is kept only while you keep using the app on this iPhone. It is not retained after you delete it. You can:
- Tap Pick Faces, then Delete Saved Faces, to erase stored crops and the local crop list immediately.
- Delete the FaceMemory app, which removes the sandbox, including all face crops and local tokens.
- Revoke Photo Library access in iOS Settings so the app cannot read new photos. That does not by itself erase crops already saved; use Delete Saved Faces or delete the app for that.
There is no server copy to delete. If you contact us, we cannot remote wipe a device we never received data from.
Photos permission
iOS asks for Photo Library permission before the app reads photos. You can change that later in Settings.
Children
FaceMemory is a memory game intended for a general audience, including older adults, with no in-app purchases, ads, or social features. Because it uses photos already on the device, a parent or caregiver should decide which photo library is used.

Changes
We may update this policy; the “Last updated” date will change when we do. Continued use of the App after an update means you accept the revised policy.
